Windies legend Lara slams ‘selfish’ Chanderpaul for not batting up the order

Windies legend Lara slams ‘selfish’ Chanderpaul for not batting up the order
Windies legend Lara slams ‘selfish’ Chanderpaul for not batting up the orderLondon: West Indies batting great Brian Lara has criticized veteran Shivnarine Chanderpaul for being selfish, and has told him to take more responsibility by batting at number three in the Tests since the other players in the team lack international experience.

“If I was going to be critical of the batting line-up at the moment it would be that the top four lack experience. Chris Gayle would obviously add experience, but I would like to see Chanderpaul jump up to No. 3,” The Daily Express quoted Lara, as saying.
“It beats me why Shiv does not move up the order – I want to know why. If he can be so consistent, why wouldn’t he say, ‘Let me bat up the order’? That’s not only going to benefit him, but it would help the team,” he added.

“Your best bat should go in at three, as he is the one who is going to lay the foundations for winning a match. If your best batter is coming in at five, he is just repairing damage. I just don’t understand the logic in it,” he said.

Lara fears for the West Indies in this series, but insisted he has high hopes for the future, and believes his relative Darren Bravo has it in him to go the full way.

“For this particular tour, it is going to be very tough for them, especially with the weather conditions and the lack of preparation. But though it is a pretty young team, it is one that could go forward,” Lara said.

“Of all of them, Darren has the potential to go the full way. Talent and potential is a very small part of actually making it, but he has the desire and the mental approach which is far more important than the physical ability to do so,” he added

Yuvraj eyes comeback by September, Punjab govt honours him

Yuvraj eyes comeback by September, Punjab govt honours himChandigarh: Middle-order batsman Yuvraj Singh, who has been forced out of action for the past few months following a rare germ cell cancer between his lungs, today said he is eyeing a comeback by September this year.

"Hopefully, I should be back (in action) very soon. May be by next 3-4 months," said Yuvraj.

The cricketer was honoured by the Punjab government here this evening for his outstanding contribution to the Indian team's win in the Wold Cup last year.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Member of Parliament Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa honoured the 30-year-old with a cash prize of Rs 1 crore.

Legendary hockey player and Badal's school-mate Balbir Singh Sr, Punjab Cricket Association Secretary, M P Pandove and Punjab Government's Secretary Sports, P S Aujla were among others present on the occasion.

When asked if he would make a comeback within one year, a surprised-looking Yuvraj said, "One year is too late. I am hoping to make an early comeback, may be by next 3-4 months."

Yuvraj, accompanied by mother Shabnam Singh, said that he has taken up yoga for complete and speedy recovery.

Speaking after being honoured, Yuvraj said, "It gives me a great pleasure to be honoured by the Chief Minister. As a Punjabi, I feel proud that I have been able to bring glory to the state as an international cricketer. Winning the World Cup was our dream which we realised after 28 years."

He said now that he has battled a serious ailment in his life, he would advise others to treat their bodies like a temple.

"That's life (having to deal with the illness). As a sportperson, I guess, we take our bodies for granted. When we feel pain, we apply a bit of ice or paste a band-aid. We should realise that our body is like a temple and we should take good care of it," he said.

Yuvraj, who had grown bald during the treatment in United States, was today seen with a patch of hair on his back and wearing a light beard.

He thanked his well wishers and fans for supporting him and said it was because of their prayers that he recovered and fought the disease.

Badal said that it was a humble effort on the part of the state government to recognise Yuvraj's outstanding contribution at the national and international level.

On the occasion, the chief minister also honoured Shabnam Singh with a momento and a shawl

Sidhartha Gets Legal Notice For Tweets

An American woman who was allegedly molested by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player Luke Pomersbach has issued notice to the team's owner Sidhartha Mallya seeking his apology for his tweets questioning her character.

Zohail Hameed has sought Mallya's unconditional apology, her advocate Jitender Garg said.
Garg told IANS: "A legal notice is issued to Sidhartha Mallya for his twitter comment. We will wait for his reply. And if he refuses to apologise, we will file a defamation case against him."
On Friday, RCB owner Sidhartha Mallya tweeted: "The girl who is accusing Luke is saying he hit her 'fiance'... what a load of f****** s***. She was all over me last night and asked for my bbm (blackberry messenger) pin, so if he was her fiance she wasn't exactly behaving like a future wife."
Pomersbach is alleged to have molested the woman at the ITC Maurya Hotel here early Friday morning and beaten her fiance Sahil Peerzada.
Delhi Police registered a case of molestation against Pomersbach, who was later released on bail by a city court. (IANS)

BREAKING NEWS: RCB player Luke Pomersbach arrested for molesting US citizen.

BREAKING NEWS: RCB player Luke Pomersbach arrested for molesting US citizen.

A case has been registered against him under various sections of IPC including section 354 of IPC (outraging modesty of woman), 323 (hurt), 454 (lurking house trespass) and 511 (Punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment).

According to PTI reports earlier in the day, the woman said Pomersbach invited himself for some drinks with the couple and some common friends from Mumbai in their room. She left the men alone and went to her bedroom for catching some sleep but Luke followed her and misbehaved with her, she alleged. When her fiancee intervened, Luke allegedly beat him up, she said.

"He (fiancee) is a nice guy and he did not want to say No. He just said fine, but....," she said.

"He (Pomersbach) was giving me dirty, nasty looks so I went into the bedroom. He suddenly held my hand and tried to kiss me and grab me," she said. “When my fiance objected, he started to beat him up and my fiance was bleeding.”

'The secret behind those sixes was good balance'

"The secret behind those sixes was good balance and it helps to have a pitch where the ball comes up to the bat. Hope I continue like this in the tournament," Gayle, who hit an unbeaten 128 with the help of 13 sixes and seven fours in his 62-ball knock, said.
Asked about any particular change in his batting, he said he decided not to move around much.
Chris Gayle"It's natural, trying not to move around. A couple of innings have me moving around which did not help. Thanks to Virat Kohli  for his support at the other end," he said.
He also said that he wanted to preserve his wicket and stay longer for the sake of the team.
"Maiden over is okay, as long as I am there till the end. If I stay longer it helps to get the runs for the team, " he added.
Reminded that the world record maximum number of sixes in a Twenty20  match is 16, Gayle joked, "Somebody should have told me that and I should have gone for it."
RCB captain Virat Kohli praised Gayle for his explosive innings.
"It was exciting game of cricket, good pitch to bat on. Batting with Chris is a wonderful experience, lot of them could have taken my head off at the non-striker's end," he said.
"We need to win the last game to make it to the play-offs," he said.
Daredevils skipper Mahela Jayawardene sought to draw the positives from the loss, saying that his side played good cricket.
"We played well and can take a lot of positives from the match. We have played enough Twenty20 cricket to realise this kind of loss happens and we need to just try and improve from here," said Jayawardene.
Asked about Gayle's innings which took the game away from the Daredevils, Jayawardene said, "He is in tremendous form, especially on a small ground like this. It was always going to be difficult to contain him.
"Still we could have chase it down. Unfortunately we could not."
On some key players not playing today, he said, "Morne was the only player rested, Viru was sick, we needed to give Andre Russell a chance."

IPL 2012: Shah Rukh Khan's statement has no basis, claim MCA officials

Mumbai: May 17, 2012

Mumbai Cricket Association officials rubbished Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's version of the fracas at the Wankhede Stadium last night, saying his statement had no basis.

"If that (abuse by MCA people) was the case, then why was the complaint lodged (against him). If he was not drunk then what was he inebriated with?" MCA treasurer Ravi Savant said.

"It's not worth reacting. We had BCCI officials with us.

“We had police officers with us. We had MCA officials with us.

“I don't think I need to react to Shah Rukh's statement," said Savant.

Earlier in the day, Khan had denied at a press conference at his home that he was drunk and claimed the scuffle broke out after MCA officials manhandled his kids who he had come to pick after the IPL match between KKR and Mumbai Indians last night.

"I was not drunk, I had gone to pick up my children. The officials were extremely aggressive. I just got angry but I left after that. I said a few things in anger. I was one and they were 20-25 officials and they were extremely rude. When I tried to answer them, they hid behind others," Khan said.

The Bollywood star had an altercation with the security personnel and officials of the association after the Knight Riders had swamped Mumbai Indians, according to a police complaint lodged by MCA joint secretary Nitin Dalal with the Marine Drive police station after the ugly spat.

Dalal also rubbished Bollywood actor's version of the fracas.

"He abused us in such a way that I can't tell you. The language he used was very bad. His behaviour is not acceptable," said Dalal.

Savant said he would push for a life ban on Khan at the MCA's managing committee meeting and was confident he will be supported by those who were present last night and witnessed the fracas.

"The way he behaved and the way he abused us, I will definitely propose that he be banned for life. Whatever members were with us yesterday there is unanimity that he be dealt with strictly and very strongly. With that perception I think they will be with me," said Savant.

"A meeting has been called to decide on the issue tomorrow at 11 am," he informed.

The MCA official also dismissed Shah Rukh's claims that the children with him were manhandled by MCA security personnel.

"It's all a lie. 20-25 children went on to the ground but no one misbehaved with them. These are all afterthoughts," he said.

"I didn't go for the match, I went to pick up my children. I have no clarification to give. They should look at their association and how they behave. They cannot, under the garb of security, be high-handed with people, especially children," Khan had said at the media conference.

Savant said he would be happy if Khan does not come to the stadium in future.

"If he doesn't come, we will be definitely happy.

Discipline on a cricket ground is of primary importance and if he does not understand that, he does not understand the game and it's better he does not come here. If he does not come, still the game will go on," he said.

When asked why the BCCI was taking a diplomatic stand on the issue, he said, "I will not call it diplomatic. It all happened at midnight. Thereafter we were busy with our own office (work). We are all honorary workers here. I am coming back from my office. Now I will be reporting it officially and they (BCCI) will follow whatever is the procedure required," he said.

Savant was also amused by the actor's statement in the media conference that he was alone and was confronted by 25 MCA people.

"Does Shah Rukh roam around alone anywhere?" he countered.

He also said that it was up to the police to convert the complaint lodged by Dalal with them against the actor into a First Information Report.

"It all now depends on the police. We have done what we had to. If police think there is merit they would convert it into an FIR. They are now conducting an enquiry," he pointed out.

MCA joint secretary Nitin Dalal, on his part, said that the MCA security was right in asking Khan and his entourage to leave the ground after the match.

"He had no right to go to the ground after the game and presentation ceremony. Our guards were right in stopping him," Dalal said.

"Our officials have been manhandled by these people. He has abused MCA and BCCI. The claim by Shah Rukh that MCA's security guards abused him is false and baseless," he added.

In his complaint to the police, Dalal has accused Khan of abusing the MCA security personnel, MCA and BCCI officials in vulgar and filthy language.

"Mr Shah Rukh Khan was in an inebriated state and continued to abuse in vulgar and filthy language," the complaint said, adding the actor had also manhandled an MCA watchman who had asked him and others to "vacate the stadium".

"Mr Shah Rukh Khan charged on him and hit the MCA watchman Mr Dalvi and continued to abuse him in vulgar language," the complaint letter to the police stated, adding all these unsavoury happenings took place in the presence of IPL CEO Sundar Raman.(PTI)

My family won’t accept Anushka : Suresh Raina

Affairs between Men in Blue and Bollywood damsels go long way to the Pataudi and Sharmila Tagore era to the recent Zaheer Khan and Isha Shaarwani relationship. Some relationships turned into material bliss while others are not so successful.
In recent past we heard of Yuvaraj Singh and Deepika Padukone, Dhoni and Laxmi Rai, Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra, Ganguly and Nagama and Kohli and Sarah Jane Dais. Latest to join the list is Suresh Raina and Anushka Sharma.
Is Suresh Raina is seriously dating Anushka Sharam or it is a media creation? Suresh Raina rubbished it as mere rumour. Talking about the news, Raina said, first his family won’t accept Anushka Sharma for that matter any actress or model as they belong to a conservative middle class family. Secondly, he doesn’t have time to date someone with his busy cricketing schedule.
So folks, Suresh Raina is still single, but looking for a simple girl who understands him and gel with his family.
