Indian Michel Jackson Prabhu Deva started the trend of remaking successful south movies in Hindi with the Salman khan starrer Wanted. Continuing with the trend, Prabhu Deva has brought one more south remake, Rowdy Rathore this week. It brings the original Khiladi Askhay Kumar in a double role for the very first time. This film which has created a huge buzz even before its release has finally hit the screens. Also starring the beautiful Sonakshi Sinha and acclaimed south Indian character actor Nasser, lets see how the film fares
Story:
Shiva (Akshay Kumar) is a small time thief who does all kinds of malpractices for a living. He meets Paro(Sonakshi Sinha) and falls in love with her. Happily in love, one day Shiva finds a little girl in a huge box he steals. Once out of the box, the little girl immediately starts calling Shiva her dad. A confused and irritated shiva retaliates the girl’s behavior at first, but accepts her finally after seeing her love and affection towards him. In the mean time, the followers of a dreaded gangster Babji, starts following Shiva mistaking him to be some one else. Another bunch of people always try saving Shiva form the deadly gang. The rest of the story is why does the girl think Shiva as her Dad? and Why are the dreaded goons after Shiva? What is the mistaken identity? And how does Shiva solve the whole problems.
Plus Points:
It’s an out and out Akshay Kumar film all the way. He steals the show right form the start of the movie. Akshay plays this larger than life hero with a lot of ease and brilliant comic timing. What comes in surprise is the angry young cop role, which Akshay plays in the second half. He shows lot of aggression with his ferocious dialogues and one liner’s. Sonakshi Sinha looks exceptionally beautiful and does a pretty good job. This time her character gives her a chance to show off her dancing, acting and comedy skills. Nasser is the surprise element of the movie and he does an awesome job. He plays the bad guys role to the core with his facial expressions and body language. People will love the mass dialogues and one liner’s in the movie. Dances and Fight sequences are the highlight of the movie. Akshay Kumar who is back in the action mode after a long time packs a punch. Climax fight is the best, which showcase raw action sequences which Bollywood was missing form a very long time. Prabhu Deva narrates the whole film in a decent pace and give s the movie a very natural and earthy feel.
Interval plot is very nicely set up and sets the tone for a action packed ending.
Minus Points:
Songs picturization could have been a lot better. Second half gets a little heavy dosed and predictable at the end. Third song in the first half could have been totally avoided as it hampers the movie’s space. Since Akshay Kumar’s moustache had some importance in the movie, he should have a grown a real one rather than opting for a fake one. In some scenes Akshay looks quite odd with the fake mustache and ugly bright costumes. Though good, some action sequence could have been reduced in the second half.
Technical Aspects:
Cinematography is really good especially in fight sequences. Slow motion action scenes in the climax fight are beautifully shot. Action in the movie is very good and brings back the old school raw action hand to hand combats. Music of the film has already been a huge hit as the song ‘Chinta ta ta Chita’ song has already become a rage because of its unique choreography and peppy music style. Editing of the movie is very sleek and apt. Back grounds score of the movie is full on masala music and will give audience a high dose of adrenaline rush. Screenplay of the movie is very good and leaves the audience waiting for the next scenes. Prabhu Deva has done an exceptionally good job with his sleek direction. He brings out great performances from his actors especially in the confrontation scenes. He is becoming a master at remaking good hit movies by giving them his own look and feel.
Verdict:
On the whole, Rowdy Rahtore bring backs the days of hero worship and larger than life heroes. Right from the word go this film entertains you with its fights, dance and raw action sequences. This is the kind of movie that will be loved hugely in the interior parts on India especially the B and C centers. Just ignore the few hiccups here and there and get ready to enjoy this joy ride called Rowdy Rathore which is a full on Paisa Vasool Entertainer. Go for it
